Derek is a perpetual explorer who has dedicated his career to mission-aligned investing. He joined 2150 after serving as head of venture at Flat World Partners, focused on sustainable investments in emerging markets, healthtech, and climate. Derek also led fund investments across private markets.
Derek started his finance career in emerging market private equity, playing a key role in development of global impact investing strategies and stakeholder development across the global south. He is a diplomatic-corps dropout and a former fellow of the Austrian-American Fulbright Commission, serving as journalist, political analyst, and educator in Central & Eastern Europe.
Derek graduated cum laude from Bowdoin College with a B.A. in Government and German as a Martha Reed Coles Scholar. He later earned an M.A. in International Relations and Economics from The Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies, co-founding a group focused on urban development and cities. He is an avid through-hiker, snowboarder, (amateur) historian, and habitual nomad.
